Lavender essential oil

If you are to take only a single oil, then this is the one. It is a powerful disinfectant, helping to clean scratches, bites and wounds. It is also a good sedative when used in small amounts, helping promote sleep if you are the person that struggles to sleep in unfamiliar surroundings. Use lavender if you have been out in the sun all day as it is great analgesic, reducing the burning sensation that comes with sun burn. It is this property that makes it so useful for insect bites.

 

Thyme essential oil

Thyme oil is an incredibly strong antiseptic and should be added to any antiseptic oil combination. It is a fantastic oil to have around for those suffering from flu symptoms such as sore throat or coughs. Thyme oil is an expectorant, so mix it with lavender and eucalyptus to help with coughs and other areas of congestion.

Eucalyptus essential oil

Other strong antiseptic is eucalyptus oil. Combine eucalyptus oil with lavender and thyme oil for a good all round disinfectant. Add one part eucalyptus with one part lavender and two parts thyme. This disinfectant can be used to clean an unsightly bathroom or to clean out an open wound.

Eucalyptus oil also acts on bacteria and viruses, making it really useful oil for cleaning. If there are signs of fever, place a few drops of eucalyptus in a bowl of boiling water and breathe the vapours to help relieve the condition.

Chamomile essential oil

Chamomile oil can help ease cramps, flatulence during bouts of upset and aids in improving liver function and improving appetite afterwards. Along with lavender oil, it can be mixed with carrier oil for helping itchy dry skin that you may suffer from as result of a change in the water.

Ginger essential oil

Peppermint essential oil

If you suffer from constipation due to a different diet or simply a change of water, then mix peppermint oil with thyme oil in a carrier oil and massage around the tummy in a clockwise direction for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Add two drops of lavender oil to one drop of peppermint oil and dilute it before massaging the mix around the temples, the back of the neck and across the brow for relief from headaches.
